More than 20,000 people descended on a small Spanish town Wednesday to hurl 165 tonnes of overripe tomatoes at each other in an hour-long celebration of joy.

The 80-year-old festival has grown from a local food fight into a global phenomenon that leaves everyone smiling (and covered in red).
