Oregon Slashes Medical Debt With 2019 Hospital Law

A 2019 Oregon law requiring nonprofit hospitals to forgive or reduce medical debt for low-income patients has saved nearly 900 people per county from debt collectors.

The policy is now being called a national roadmap as millions face losing health coverage.
