Oregon Spider Gets Indigenous Name in Tribal Ceremony

A newly discovered cave spider in Oregon received not just a scientific name, but a traditional Indigenous naming ceremony from the Yakama Nation.

Scientists honored the land's original people by inviting them to name the species tulishpun, meaning "cave predator" in Sahaptin.
