16 Athletes at Masuk High Earn Academic Excellence Honors

Sixteen Masuk High School athletes just proved that hitting the books and hitting the track aren't mutually exclusive. Head Coach Donald Casey Jr. surprised these dedicated students with Awards of Excellence during practice, celebrating their induction into the National Honor Society.

The special ceremony took place inside the school gym in Monroe, Connecticut, where each student-athlete received a certificate and medal. These 16 students balance rigorous training schedules in Unified Sports and Indoor Track with the demanding academics required for National Honor Society membership.

"We are so proud of you," Casey told the gathered athletes. "A tremendous amount of hard work, dedication, studying and academic achievement is required in order to achieve this honor."

The recognition highlights a growing understanding that athletic and academic success often go hand in hand. Student-athletes learn time management, discipline, and goal-setting skills that transfer directly from the practice field to the classroom.

Unified Sports, which brings together students with and without intellectual disabilities for team competition, adds an extra dimension to these students' achievements.
