In a heartwarming demonstration of diaspora giving back to their roots, the Edo National Association Worldwide (ENAW) has commissioned a groundbreaking low-cost dialysis and diagnostic centre in Edo State, Nigeria. The facility promises to transform access to life-saving kidney treatment for countless families who previously struggled to afford care.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, represented by Health Commissioner Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, officially opened the centre on Wednesday, celebrating it as a shining example of community-driven healthcare innovation. The facility will offer dialysis sessions at the remarkably affordable rate of N60,000, making essential treatment accessible to ordinary citizens who might otherwise go without care.

The story behind this remarkable achievement is deeply personal and profoundly inspiring. ENAW President Engineer Bose Ogbeifun-Oviasu shared that the vision for these centres was born from her family's own journey through hardship. In 2004, she watched her eldest sister battle kidney failure, witnessing firsthand the exhaustion, pain, and endless travelling required for treatment.

"I witnessed her courage, and it became clear to me that many others were fighting the same silent battle, often without the means or access to care," Ogbeifun-Oviasu explained with evident emotion. "During those long, uncertain days, a vision took root in my heart—a vision that no one should have to suffer alone or lose hope simply because they cannot afford or access lifesaving dialysis treatment."

That vision has now blossomed into reality, with not just one but three dialysis centres taking shape across Edo State. The project represents an extraordinary mobilization of resources from Edo people living abroad, who have contributed generously to ensure their brothers and sisters back home can access quality healthcare regardless of their economic circumstances.

The second centre in Okpella, serving Edo North Senatorial District, has been completed and is currently being fitted with state-of-the-art dialysis machines and medical devices in preparation for its commissioning. Meanwhile, construction is well underway on the third facility in Ekpoma, covering Edo Central Senatorial District.

Governor Okpebholo praised the initiative as perfectly aligned with his administration's vision for the health sector. He assured ENAW that his government would work closely with the organization to ensure all centres operate according to best practices and maintain high professional standards, guaranteeing patients receive world-class care.
