A long-awaited dream has finally become reality for the people of Bonny and Bodo in Rivers State, as the historic Bodo-Bonny Road nears completion, bringing hope and connectivity to communities that have waited generations for this moment.

During a heartfelt thank-you tour of Bonny Local Government Area on Thursday, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike celebrated this remarkable achievement, praising President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Works Dave Umahi for delivering on a promise that had eluded successive administrations for years.

"All of us know that this Bodo-Bonny road has been a political road for long," Wike shared with evident emotion. "Every government comes, every government goes with promises. But this time, without pressure or prompting, it has become a reality. To God be the glory."

The minister expressed special gratitude to his colleague Dave Umahi, commending him for ensuring the President's vision materialized into concrete progress that will transform countless lives.

For years, residents and visitors faced perilous journeys across the Bonny River, with travel dependent on uncertain tides and expensive helicopter rides. Wike recalled the anxiety that once accompanied every trip: "Before, each time we wanted to come to Bonny for a campaign, we would ask ourselves, 'How is the tide?' Even in helicopters, flying over the ocean, we would pray for safe passage."

President Tinubu temporarily opened the road on December 8, 2025, marking it as a flagship achievement of his Renewed Hope Agenda. Speaking through Minister Umahi at the ceremony, the President celebrated the fulfillment of a long-held dream: "The dream of the Bonny Kingdom has come true; the dream of the Bodo Kingdom has come true. No more risky journeys through the busy Bonny River, no more expensive helicopters, no more untold hardships to reach this blessed island."

The road is currently open to traffic with safety measures in place, including restrictions on night travel and heavy-duty vehicles until final completion expected in the first quarter of 2026. These precautions ensure the infrastructure serves its purpose while maintaining the highest safety standards.
