Driver Stops Traffic to Save 2 Toddlers on Busy Florida Road

John Brittingham was driving home Sunday in Brevard County, Florida, when he saw something that made his heart stop: two tiny girls standing in the middle of State Road A1A.

Without hesitation, he jumped out of his car and halted oncoming traffic to reach them. The terrified toddlers, both under three years old, immediately clung to the stranger who'd just become their hero.

"I was terrified that if anything would happen to them, the rest of my life would have been ruined," Brittingham told local news station WESH. His quick thinking turned what could have been a tragedy into a rescue story.

With the children safe in his arms, Brittingham's next challenge was finding their parents. He walked around nearby homes calling out for anyone who knew the girls, but the toddlers were too young to help, only able to point and say simple words.

Then he noticed an open gate. The mystery solved itself when he realized the children had wandered from a nearby home where their parents were caring for five kids total.
