Edo Governor Calls for Greater Support for Nigerian Troops

Governor Monday Okpebholo stood at the Museum ground in Benin City on Thursday, urging Nigerians to do more for the armed forces members who sacrifice daily to keep the nation united. His call came during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, where military families and veterans gathered to honor those who gave their lives for Nigeria.

"We are here to honor our fallen heroes who have sacrificed their lives for the continuous existence and unity of Nigeria," Okpebholo said. He encouraged active service members to continue giving their best while serving the nation.

Retired Major Joe Koma added another perspective, calling for improved care for military retirees. "We have sacrificed our lives for Nigeria, and we need more care," he explained, noting that while pensions arrive regularly, increases would help veterans manage rising costs.
