Eileen Gu Headed to Italy After Confirming Olympic Spot

Freeskiing phenom Eileen Gu is heading back to the Olympics, and she's bringing serious momentum with her.

The 21-year-old Chinese-American athlete confirmed her qualification for the 2026 Winter Games in Italy through a celebratory social media post this week. She joins a star-studded roster of skiing legends bound for the slopes next month.

Gu already proved her dominance at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, where she made history by winning medals in all three freeskiing events. She took home two golds in big air and halfpipe, plus a silver in slopestyle.

This season shows she's nowhere near slowing down. In December, she claimed victory at a World Cup halfpipe competition in China and won the inaugural Snow League freeski event created by snowboarding icon Shaun White.

Her recent success is even more impressive considering she spent the summer recovering from a training injury in New Zealand. But her first-place finish in Saturday's slopestyle qualifying heat in Laax, Switzerland proves she's firing on all cylinders again.

Fellow American Mikaela Shiffrin has also locked in her spot. The U.S. freeski halfpipe team is coming together with Hunter Hess, Alex Ferreira, and Nick Goepper all qualified, while Olympic silver medalist Colby Stevenson is competing this weekend for the final roster position.
