Ghana's Okere Launches Valentine's Day Hiking Event

Ghana's Okere region is betting on its rolling hills and improved roads to become the country's next outdoor adventure hotspot.

Member of Parliament Daniel Nana Addo Kenneth launched the "Get Okere Walking" campaign at the traditional Adukrom Odwira Festival, announcing a Valentine's Day group hike from Adukrom to Aseseeso Road. The scenic route follows the newly improved Dan Botwe Highway, where green hills meet winding roads perfect for hiking and walking.

"Okere is endowed with beautiful hills, serene surroundings, and good road infrastructure," Kenneth told chiefs and residents at the festival. "This campaign is about unlocking those assets to attract tourists, hikers, and investors."

The timing couldn't be more intentional. Scheduling the maiden walk on February 14 adds romance to recreation, inviting couples to celebrate love while exploring nature together. Families and solo adventurers are equally welcome to discover what Kenneth calls an emerging tourism destination with strong growth potential.

The Ripple Effect

Local business owners stand to gain the most from increased foot traffic. Food vendors, tour guides, transportation services, and small hotels could see new customers as hikers discover the region. Kenneth emphasized that tourism dollars flowing into Okere would create opportunities for entrepreneurs ready to serve outdoor enthusiasts.
