Healthcare Heroes Prevent Potential Health Crisis by Destroying Expired Noodles
Healthcare teams in Jigawa State prevent potential health risks by systematically destroying 5,520 cartons of expired noodles intended for immunisation campaigns. Their proactive approach highlights commitment to public safety.
In a proactive display of public health protection, the Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (JSPHCDA) and World Health Organisation (WHO) took decisive action to safeguard community wellness by destroying 5,520 cartons of expired noodles.
The noodles, originally intended as incentives for the National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs) campaign, were carefully retrieved from 27 Local Government Areas and disposed of through controlled burning in Dutse on Wednesday.

State Cold Chain Officer Yusuf Inuwa explained that the noodles were initially supplied by WHO to support an immunisation exercise originally scheduled for November 2025. However, when the campaign was postponed to 2 December 2025, the agency recognized the potential health risks of distributing expired products.
The retrieval process was meticulously planned to prevent any potential food safety incidents. Mr. Inuwa emphasized that expired incentives become a significant liability, and distributing these noodles could have potentially caused food poisoning or other serious health complications.

The destruction operation was conducted under comprehensive supervision, involving representatives from multiple critical agencies including the World Health Organisation, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa State Environmental Protection Agency, and local media.
By taking this proactive step, the JSPHCDA demonstrated remarkable commitment to public health and safety, ensuring that no potentially harmful expired food products would reach community members during immunisation campaigns.

The careful handling and transparent destruction of these expired noodles underscores the rigorous standards maintained by healthcare professionals in protecting community well-being.
