In an inspiring move toward sustainable education, the Andhra Pradesh government has partnered with Heartfulness, a volunteer-based non-profit organization, to launch India's first net-zero residential school. The groundbreaking pilot project opened Wednesday at the A.P. Social Welfare Residential School in Kuntamukkala, Krishna district, marking a new chapter in environmental education.

The innovative initiative promises to create a generation of environmentally conscious leaders by integrating ecological responsibility into daily student life. Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath celebrated the launch, emphasizing how the project will empower students to become caretakers of vast ecosystems across Andhra Pradesh. "Nurturing a sense of responsibility towards nature at an early age will prepare them to become environmentally conscious future leaders," he shared with enthusiasm.

What makes this school truly special is its ambitious vision of creating an Integrated Ecological Campus. Students will learn and grow surrounded by green belts, a thriving rainforest, carefully maintained wetlands, and microgreens gardens. This living laboratory will close the net-zero loop, transforming the campus into a self-sustaining ecosystem that teaches by example.

The ambitious seven-year roadmap aims for remarkable achievements: negative carbon emissions, improved soil health, enhanced biodiversity, and reduced freshwater usage. APSWREIS secretary Prasanna Venkatesh beautifully captured the project's long-term vision: "When sustainability becomes a way of life in residential schools, it becomes a lifelong habit."

The collaboration with Forests by Heartfulness brings invaluable expertise to the initiative. Chairman Ramakantha and Director Saravanan Subramanian joined the celebration, which featured a mass plantation drive that brought together green enthusiasts from across the region.
