Kroger Stores Adding 150 EV Chargers Yearly Through 2035
EVgo is installing at least 150 fast chargers annually at Kroger grocery stores nationwide, turning routine shopping trips into easy charging stops. The expanded partnership will bring up to 16 charging stalls per location across 40 states by 2035.
Charging your electric vehicle is about to get as routine as picking up milk and eggs.
EVgo is supercharging its partnership with Kroger, committing to install at least 150 fast-charging stalls each year through 2035 at grocery stores across America. The rollout expands a collaboration that started in 2022 and tackles one of EV drivers' biggest headaches: finding convenient places to charge.
The concept is brilliantly simple. Instead of making a separate trip to a charging station, drivers can power up their vehicles while grabbing groceries. Each participating location will feature up to 16 fast-charging stalls, turning necessary errands into productive pit stops.
The first site from this expanded rollout is already operational in Salt Lake City, Utah. Additional locations are coming to Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Washington, and other states throughout the year.
The chargers will appear across Kroger's family of store brands, including Fred Meyer, Fry's Food Stores, Harris Teeter, King Soopers, and Smith's Food and Drug. That massive footprint means millions of Americans will soon have charging access at their regular shopping destinations.

EVgo CEO Badar Khan highlighted the freedom factor. "Adding fast charging to Kroger locations will provide the growing number of EV drivers an essential amenity β the convenience of charging where they shop while empowering drivers with the freedom to choose electric," he said.
The Ripple Effect
This partnership creates wins across the board. EV drivers gain thousands of convenient charging options without altering their routines. Kroger stores benefit from customers who spend more time (and likely more money) shopping while their vehicles charge.
The broader impact extends to accelerating America's electric vehicle transition. Range anxiety remains a top barrier for potential EV buyers, and visible, accessible charging infrastructure at familiar locations helps overcome that psychological hurdle.
EVgo projects its network will grow to over 15,000 charging stalls by the end of 2029. That's roughly triple the size of their current network, representing a massive infrastructure investment that makes electric driving more practical for millions of Americans.
The grocery store charging model could become the blueprint for widespread EV adoption, proving that sustainability works best when it fits seamlessly into everyday life.
