LA 2028 Olympics Tickets Start at Just $28

Getting into the Olympics just became a lot easier on your wallet.

The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games opened ticket registration this week, with one million seats priced at just $28 and about one-third of all tickets costing less than $100. Sport fans from anywhere can now register for a random drawing that covers every event at the Games.

"These Games belong to everyone," said Casey Wasserman, chairman of LA 2028. "These Games have to be affordable and inclusive."

Registration stays open until March 18, giving everyone an equal shot regardless of when they sign up. Fans who register will be entered into a random draw for April time slots to actually purchase tickets.

Here's how it works: Once you're in the system with your name, email, and zip code, you'll get an email notification if selected. The earlier your assigned time slot, the better your chances of snagging tickets for your favorite events, though no slot guarantees availability.

The first purchasing window runs April 9 through 19. Tickets for both the opening and closing ceremonies will be part of this initial offering.

Most events will take place across Los Angeles and southern California, with canoeing and softball heading to Oklahoma City. Residents in both the LA area and Oklahoma City get special early purchase access.

The Bright Side

This pricing strategy marks a clear shift toward accessibility after criticism of 2026 World Cup ticket costs. LA28 organizers centered their entire ticketing plan around making sure fans worldwide could actually afford to attend.

The 2024 Paris Olympics started tickets at about $28 too, proving that major sporting events can balance prestige with accessibility. LA has the advantage of using existing infrastructure from hosting the Games twice before in 1932 and 1984, which helps keep costs down.

Chief Allison Katz-Mayfield called the random draw "the fairest way to ensure that the broadest number of people can get access to tickets and that no one is advantaged or disadvantaged." No gaming the system, no advantage to speed, just pure chance.

This marks the first time the Olympics return to US soil since Atlanta in 1996. Hundreds of Olympians and Paralympians gathered at LA Memorial Coliseum on Tuesday for a ceremonial cauldron lighting to celebrate the ticket launch.
