LA Schools Launch Mentorship for Black Student Success

Los Angeles Unified School District just adopted a mentorship program designed to help Black young men thrive both in and out of the classroom.

The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project connects Black male students with mentors who teach leadership skills, social development, and personal growth. LAUSD's adoption of the program brings structured support to thousands of students in the nation's second-largest school district.

The program gets its name from its goal of creating 5,000 positive role models who can inspire the next generation. Mentors work directly with students to build confidence, academic skills, and community connections that last well beyond graduation.
