Mahindra Scholarship Reaches 11,000 Truck Drivers' Daughters

For many daughters of India's truck drivers, finishing 10th grade marks the end of their education journey, but one company decided that shouldn't be the final chapter.

Since 2014, Mahindra's Saarthi Abhiyaan has awarded over 11,000 scholarships worth more than Rs. 11 crore to help these young women continue their studies beyond secondary school. The program just announced its 12th edition, which will support another 1,000 students with Rs. 10,000 each.

What makes this initiative special is its open door policy. Any truck driver's daughter who passes Class 10 can apply, whether her father drives a Mahindra vehicle or not. The company recognizes that India's entire transport ecosystem deserves support, not just their own customers.

The program reaches students through over 75 transport hubs across India. Selection happens through independent evaluation, ensuring the process stays fair and transparent. Each recipient receives her scholarship through direct bank transfer along with a certificate recognizing her achievement.

Vinod Sahay, President of Mahindra's Trucks, Buses and Construction Equipment division, emphasizes that the money matters less than the message it sends. When families see their daughters celebrated for pursuing education, it builds confidence and aspiration in communities that keep India's logistics moving.

The timing of each scholarship matters too. That Rs. 10,000 arrives right when families face tough decisions about whether a daughter can continue studying. It often makes the difference between opportunity and obligation.
