Up, up, and away! A Michigan community is preparing for an extraordinary celebration that promises to unite neighbors, honor local heroes, and create magical memories for families across the region.

The Hamburg Family Fun Fest is set to make history on Friday, June 19, 2026, with an ambitious and heartwarming goal: breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Superman. The event will take place at 1 p.m. at Hamburg Township's beautiful Manly W. Bennett Memorial Park in Whitmore Lake, just north of Ann Arbor.

Joanna Hardesty, director of the Hamburg Enhanced Recreation Organization (HERO), is bubbling with enthusiasm about the community-building opportunity. "Our goal is to reach 1,000 people, and I really do think that is obtainable," she shared. "Really we want to honor and recognize our local heroes, and what better way to do that but with Superman, a superhero."

The festival is extending special invitations to the real-life superheroes in the community: veterans, police officers, firefighters, emergency medical services personnel, doctors, nurses, and teachers. It's a beautiful way to recognize those who serve and protect while bringing the entire community together in celebration.

Adding to the excitement, the event will kick off with Superman himself "flying" out of an airplane with a parachute—a spectacular sight that's sure to delight children and adults alike.

Participation couldn't be easier or more accessible. The costume requirements are wonderfully simple: a blue shirt, a Superman "S" logo, and a red cape. Full costumes are welcome but completely optional, ensuring that everyone can join in the fun regardless of budget or crafting skills.

The Hamburg Family Fun Fest already has an impressive track record with world records. The festival holds the Guinness World Record for the longest line of doughnuts, achieved during their 10-year anniversary celebration in 2015. That sweet achievement featured 33,993 doughnuts stretching more than two miles—a testament to this community's ability to dream big and achieve even bigger.

Now, as the festival celebrates its 20-year anniversary, organizers are ready to add another feather to their cap. With the festival typically attracting more than 30,000 visitors over its four-day run, Hardesty is confident the community will rally together to reach their goal.

The current record was set in 2013 when 867 people dressed as Superman gathered at a festival in Cumbria, England. The Hamburg community is poised to soar past that number while supporting a wonderful cause and creating an unforgettable experience.

Beyond the world record attempt, the Hamburg Family Fun Fest promises four days of joy from June 17-20, featuring amusement park rides, fireworks, professional wrestling, antique motorcycle tricks, BMX stunt riders, and much more family-friendly entertainment.
