One year ago, Edem Agbana took the Oath of Office as Member of Parliament for Ketu North Constituency in Ghana's Ninth Parliament, embarking on what would become a transformative year for his community. Today, he reflects on twelve months of dedicated service that has brought tangible improvements to the lives of thousands of constituents.

Agbana's path to Parliament itself is an inspiring story of perseverance and democratic values. Facing one of the most challenging party primaries in recent memory, he emerged victorious by a single vote—a powerful reminder that every voice truly matters in a democracy. Rather than celebrating this narrow victory, Agbana immediately focused on healing divisions and building unity across his constituency. His efforts paid off spectacularly, with voters rewarding his inclusive approach with an overwhelming 87 percent mandate in the general election.

The young MP credits his preparation to valuable experience working alongside Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, where he learned that effective parliamentary representation requires sacrifice, commitment, and genuine service. Serving under the distinguished leadership of Speaker Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Agbana has embraced his role as a backbencher, focusing on mastering parliamentary processes and contributing meaningfully through committee work and policy advocacy.

What truly distinguishes Agbana's first year is the remarkable delivery of results across multiple sectors. His flagship scholarship program has disbursed over 1.3 million Ghanaian cedis to support 420 tertiary students, opening doors to educational opportunities that might otherwise remain closed. Seven GETFund projects have been secured for the constituency, alongside laptop donations to senior high schools.

Healthcare improvements have touched thousands of lives. All major health facilities in Ketu North have received equipment donations and facility upgrades. Through strategic partnerships with NGOs, over 900 constituents received free eye surgeries—a life-changing intervention for families who previously struggled with vision problems.

Community development has flourished with over 45 projects at various completion stages. Twenty communities now have access to clean water through mechanised boreholes, while fifteen communities received large water storage tanks. Farmers benefited from over 7,000 bags of fertiliser, supporting local agriculture and food security.

Infrastructure development has literally brightened the constituency through the innovative LightUpKetuNorth initiative, installing functional streetlights on major roads and streets. The Ketu North Skills and Apprenticeship Programme is equipping 500 young people with vocational training and job placement support, investing in the constituency's future workforce.

Perhaps most impressively, Agbana established the constituency's first Municipal EPA Secretariat, bringing environmental protection services closer to the people. His advocacy has ensured key roads feature prominently in the national budget, promising continued infrastructure improvements.

Through grassroots sports support and the annual EdemAgbana Carnival—now the Volta Region's biggest music concert—young people have gained platforms to showcase their talents and pursue their dreams.

Agbana's first year demonstrates that principled leadership, combined with tireless effort and genuine care for constituents, can transform communities. His commitment to being prepared, present, and purposeful has created a model of parliamentary representation that prioritizes accountability and measurable results. As he enters his second year, the people of Ketu North have every reason to feel optimistic about their continued progress and development.
