** Nigeria's Osimhen Leads Super Eagles to AFCON Semifinals

Nigeria's Super Eagles are flying high after a commanding 2-0 victory over Algeria brought them one step closer to redemption and continental glory.

Victor Osimhen, the 2023 African Player of the Year, proved why he earned that title on Saturday in Marrakesh. The masked Galatasaray striker headed home the opening goal just two minutes into the second half, then turned provider to set up Akor Adams for the insurance goal before the hour mark.

The win keeps Nigeria's quest for a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title firmly on track. After the disappointment of missing out on World Cup qualification, the Super Eagles came to Morocco hungry to prove themselves.

They weren't intimidated by facing nearly 33,000 Algerian supporters in the stands, with the Atlas Mountains providing a stunning backdrop to their dominant performance. Nigeria controlled the first half without scoring, but their persistence paid off after halftime.

Osimhen's hot streak continues to grow at the perfect moment. After going seven AFCON matches without a goal, he's now scored in four straight games and leads Nigeria to 14 total tournament goals, the most of any team.

Adams rounded the goalkeeper for his second goal in as many games after Osimhen unselfishly squared the ball instead of shooting. The Sevilla striker nearly added another when his header bounced off the post, but the damage was already done.

Algeria, who last won the tournament in 2019 after beating Nigeria along the way, never managed a single shot in the first half. Their formidable attacking trio of Riyad Mahrez, Ibrahim Maza, and Mohamed Amoura couldn't break through Nigeria's organized defense.

Next up for the Super Eagles is Wednesday's semi-final against tournament hosts Morocco in Rabat. The atmosphere will be even more electric, but this Nigerian team has already shown they can handle the pressure.
