In a significant political maneuver, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking a potential turning point in Nigeria's complex political landscape.

The governor submitted his resignation letter dated 29th December 2025 to the Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward in Mangu Local Government Area, which was formally acknowledged on 30th December 2025.

This move comes approximately 12 days after APC national chairman Nentawe Yilwatda publicly announced Mutfwang's alleged defection to the ruling party during the 14th National Caucus meeting in Abuja.

In his resignation letter, Mutfwang expressed deep gratitude to the PDP, stating, "I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me with the political platform to participate in the democratic process. I acknowledge the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me."

Yilwatda had previously celebrated Mutfwang's potential switch as a strategic gain, declaring, "With the defection of Governor Mutfwang, the entire North-Central region is now governed by the APC," highlighting the potential national implications of this political transition.

The governor explained his decision was driven by evolving political dynamics and a personal commitment to delivering impactful leadership, suggesting he believes alternative platforms might better serve his governance goals.

Mutfwang joins a growing trend of state governors departing the PDP, with similar transitions observed in Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Enugu states, signaling a potentially transformative period in Nigerian political alignments.
