RPI and South Korea Partner to Boost Clean Energy Innovation

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, is joining forces with South Korea to advance breakthrough technologies that could change how we power our future.

The 200-year-old engineering school signed an agreement this week with the Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency, which supports over 80% of South Korea's economy through small and medium businesses. Together, they'll tackle urgent challenges in clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and industrial materials.

"We are aligning our research strengths with real-world technology needs," said Jonathan Dordick, RPI's vice president of strategic alliances. "We're excited to work on problems that matter right now."

At the heart of the collaboration is Professor Chulsung Bae, whose RPI lab invents new polymers that could revolutionize energy storage. His team focuses on materials for fuel cells and technology that makes clean hydrogen from water, offering alternatives to fossil fuels.

Polymers are large molecular chains that create everything from plastics to silk, but Bae's versions conduct electricity in ways that could power cleaner vehicles and store renewable energy more efficiently.
