Under the new regulations taking effect February 15, Olympic gold medalists will receive an impressive 3.5 billion Vietnamese dong (approximately $133,000), while silver and bronze winners will take home 2.2 billion and 1.4 billion dong respectively. This represents a transformative leap from the previous amounts of 350 million, 220 million, and 140 million dong, signaling Vietnam's recognition of the dedication and sacrifice required to compete at the highest levels.

The celebration of athletic achievement extends beyond medal ceremonies. Athletes who break Olympic records will also see their bonuses increase tenfold to 1.4 billion dong. To put this in perspective, an athlete achieving what shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh accomplished in 2016—winning both gold and silver medals while setting an Olympic record—would now be eligible for a remarkable total bonus of 7.1 billion dong.

But Vietnam's commitment to its athletes goes far beyond prize money. The comprehensive decree introduces thoughtful enhancements to daily life for national team members, including doubled daily salaries for coaches and athletes, now set at 1.1 million and 550,000 dong respectively. Those preparing for major competitions or the Paralympics will receive an additional boost of 1.5 times the standard rate.

In a particularly touching gesture that acknowledges the ongoing value of athletic achievement, the government has introduced monthly allowances for Olympic medalists that continue until the next Games. Gold, silver, and bronze winners will receive 40 million, 30 million, and 20 million dong per month, providing financial security and recognition that lasts beyond their moment of glory.

The improvements extend to other prestigious competitions too. Asian Games prize money will double, with gold medalists receiving 280 million dong, while SEA Games rewards will increase by 1.2 times to 54 million dong for gold.
