Women Now Hold 73% of Delhi Teaching Positions

Women are taking the lead in Delhi classrooms, reaching an all-time high of 73% of all teaching positions in 2024-25. Out of nearly 162,000 teachers across the city's schools, over 118,000 are women shaping young minds every day.

The numbers tell a story of steady progress. From primary schools to senior secondary levels, women educators outnumber their male colleagues by significant margins, according to data from Delhi's Department of Economics and Statistics.

At the primary level, where foundational learning happens, female teachers continue forming the strong majority among the 26,560 educators. Senior secondary schools show the same pattern, with women leading classrooms that serve the city's largest student populations.

This trend isn't new but continues strengthening. Over the past four years, women have consistently made up more than two-thirds of Delhi's teaching workforce, turning education into one of the capital's most female-dominated professional sectors.
