10 Cancer Survivors Honored in Iowa's Trucker Convoy

Ten cancer survivors got the ride of their lives Thursday night when local truckers honored them with a special convoy through Iowa's heartland.

The Survivor Convoy opened Midwest Pride In Your Ride, an annual truck and tractor show in Earlville that raises money for Relay for Life. Five semi-trucks from Delaware County picked up survivors in Manchester while five more from Dubuque County gathered in Dyersville, meeting in the middle for a triumphant parade down Earlville's main street.

Among the survivors riding high in the cabs were Liz Heffernan, Frank Heims, Sherilyn Cook, Judy Ellingson, and Jeff Larson, all from Manchester. Each shared their cancer journey with local radio station KMCH as they prepared for their special moment.

The convoy traveled nearly side by side through town before heading to Tri-State Raceway, where the truck and tractor show continued through the weekend. The entire event benefits the American Cancer Society's ongoing fight against cancer.
