100-Year-Old Cancer Survivor Celebrates at Treatment Center

Annie Cannon celebrated her 100th birthday at the very place where she fought cancer, surrounded by the medical team who helped save her life.

The Ochsner LSU Health Feist-Weiller Cancer Center in Shreveport, Louisiana threw a party for their former patient on May 2. Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux attended and presented Cannon with an official proclamation declaring it Annie Cannon Day.

"I didn't know this was going to happen," Cannon said at the celebration. "I didn't even know I was going to be here to do this, but I'm here."

The surprise party took place in the center's Tiger Room at 3 p.m. Staff who treated Cannon gathered to honor both her milestone birthday and her journey as a cancer survivor.

Dr. Richard Mansour, who cared for Cannon during her treatment, said she left an unforgettable mark on everyone at the center. "She is an amazing woman," he explained.

What made Cannon special wasn't just her positive attitude during treatment. During appointments, she and her doctors talked about life beyond illness, sharing stories about growing up in small town Louisiana and her rich history in the state.

"She's woven into the fabric of Louisiana," Mansour said.
