11-Year-Old Brexton Busch Wins First Race Since Dad's Death

Brexton Busch crossed the finish line Friday night at Port City Raceway in Oklahoma, but this checkered flag carried the weight of two months of grief and determination.

The 11-year-old son of late NASCAR legend Kyle Busch claimed his first racing victory since his father passed away on May 21 at age 41. Starting 14th and falling further back after a first-lap wreck, Brexton methodically fought his way through the field to win the restricted micro sprint feature.

His mother Samantha shared the bittersweet celebration on Instagram. "There was a lot of emotions to say the very least," she wrote, adding she was "beyond proud of him not just for winning but all that he's navigating at a young age."

Kyle Busch, a two-time NASCAR Cup champion, had been more than just Brexton's dad. He served as his son's crew chief, driver coach, mentor, and biggest fan at every race.

Brexton returned to racing less than two weeks after his father's death, continuing to compete throughout the summer. Friday's race held extra meaning as he also drove his dad's green No. 18 car during another portion of the event.

"My first win since my dad passed," Brexton wrote on Instagram. "I'm missing my crew chief, my driver coach, my dad, the guy who I looked up to more than anyone."

Samantha reflected on what Kyle loved most. "There was nothing that made him happier than watching Brex race, spending the day tinkering on his car and then being the first one sprinting to Victory Lane with that huge grin on his face," she wrote.

After the win, Brexton posted a video performing his dad's signature victory bow with a simple caption: "For my Dad."

The racing community has rallied around the Busch family, with Samantha expressing gratitude for "all the support and amazing people we have around us." That support is helping one young driver navigate loss while honoring his father's legacy one lap at a time.
