12-Year-Old Builds Robots From Cardboard and Kitchen Scraps

While most kids see garbage when they look at old cardboard boxes and discarded wires, 12-year-old Levin Paulose from Kerala sees his next invention waiting to happen.

The seventh grader has been capturing hearts online with his homemade robots and smart devices built entirely from scrap materials. His workshop consists of cardboard, old batteries, strings, nuts and bolts, and salvaged electric motors.

Levin's creations tackle real problems at home. He built an automatic food stirrer that keeps cooking while you step away from the stove. He designed a water-fetching device powered by a salvaged motor. His cardboard humanoid robot earned him his first wave of attention online.

But his remote-controlled curtain system really put him on the map. In a video that helped him gain 225,000 Instagram followers in July 2026, Levin shows every step of the process. He gathers components, connects wires, tests the electrical setup, and installs a motorized mechanism above ordinary household curtains. With the press of a button on a simple remote, the motor whirs to life and the curtains glide open automatically.

What sets Levin apart is his transparency. He doesn't just show off polished final products. His videos walk viewers through the messy middle: the wiring mistakes, the assembly challenges, the testing failures and successes.
