13 Parties Sign Peace Accord for Nigeria's Ekiti Election

Thirteen political parties competing in Nigeria's Ekiti State governorship election signed a peace accord this Thursday, committing to conduct campaigns without violence, hate speech, or electoral misconduct. The agreement, organized by the National Peace Committee, brings together major parties including the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, and eleven others ahead of the June 20 vote.

Former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar emphasized this isn't just paperwork. The accord represents a collective promise to put issue-based campaigns and political tolerance above winning at any cost.

"No political ambition is worth the loss of life or destruction of peace in our communities," Abubakar told the gathering. "Elections will come and go, but the peace and unity of the state must remain endured."

The commitment comes with serious operational backing. Nigeria's electoral commission has prepared coverage for 2,445 polling units across 16 local government areas. Over 470 journalists and 98 observers will monitor the process to ensure transparency.

Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu announced comprehensive security deployments across all polling locations. His message to parties was clear: democracies thrive on ideas and service, not conflict and division.
