1,400 Tech Students Meet IRL After Learning Online in Lagos
Over 1,400 aspiring tech professionals connected face-to-face in Lagos at TS Connect, many meeting their online classmates for the first time. The gathering showed how powerful in-person community can be for people building new careers in tech.
More than 1,400 students and alumni of TS Academy gathered in Lagos for an event that turned virtual classmates into real-world connections. TS Connect brought together learners who had spent months studying digital and technical skills online, giving them their first chance to meet the faces behind the screen names.
The event ditched the typical tech conference format for something more relaxed and human. Students wandered freely, chatting with tutors, swapping stories about their learning journeys, and discovering peers from different courses and cohorts.
For many attendees, seeing their classmates in person changed how they viewed their own progress. One alumnus shared how watching cohort members land jobs and make real strides made everything feel more achievable, especially now that he's working in tech too.
Adetola Durojaiye, founder and CEO of TS Academy, explained why physical gatherings matter in a digital-first world. "People are learning, but they don't really have enough space to interact naturally," he said, noting that most tech events feel too structured or formal.

The informal atmosphere made all the difference. Conversations flowed easily as people asked questions, shared projects, and built relationships that extended beyond their individual learning tracks.
The Ripple Effect
TS Connect is just the beginning of something bigger. The academy plans to take the event to nine more Nigerian cities, including Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, and Kano, making community accessible to tech learners nationwide.
The ripple will spread even further internationally, with editions planned for Accra, Nairobi, London, and Birmingham. What started as a single gathering in Lagos could soon become a regular touchpoint for thousands of aspiring tech professionals across Africa and beyond.
The event also launched TS Academy's merchandise line, with branded hoodies, shirts, and tote bags that attendees embraced as symbols of belonging. A raffle draw closed out the day, with winners taking home laptops and phones to support their tech journeys.
One attendee captured the spirit perfectly: "It doesn't just stop at learning. You actually see people moving forward, getting opportunities."
