15-Year-Old Hits 97 in 29 Balls to Lead Team to Victory

A 15-year-old just delivered one of the most breathtaking performances in cricket history, and the world can't stop talking about it.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi exploded for 97 runs from just 29 balls in the Indian Premier League playoff game on Wednesday, hitting 12 massive sixes that left even his opponents in awe. The teenage phenom came within one hit of breaking the record for fastest century in IPL history before being caught out in the eighth over.

The numbers tell an incredible story. Sooryavanshi reached 50 runs in just 16 balls and hit boundaries off seven straight deliveries. He smacked three consecutive sixes off Australian captain Pat Cummins, who could only shake his head and smile after the onslaught.

When Sooryavanshi was finally dismissed, he looked devastated at missing the record. But the opposing players rushed to congratulate him, and the entire stadium rose to their feet in applause.

His spectacular knock powered Rajasthan Royals to 243 runs and a convincing 47-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad. While his opening partner, Indian international Yashasvi Jaiswal, scored 25 runs, Sooryavanshi had already put up 97 at the other end.

The performance also launched Sooryavanshi to the top of this season's run-scoring list. His seventh six of the match broke the all-time record for most sixes in an IPL season, surpassing cricket legend Chris Gayle's previous mark of 59.

"What an innings. What a player," said Indian cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar during the broadcast. "That is an innings to remember. An innings to savour."

The Ripple Effect

Sooryavanshi's journey shows what's possible when talent meets opportunity. He announced himself to the world just over a year ago by hitting his very first IPL ball for six at age 14. Since then, he's become the youngest player to score a T20 century and smashed 175 runs in the Under-19 World Cup final against England earlier this year.

Now cricket experts worldwide are calling for him to represent India's senior team. Former England captain Michael Vaughan posted on social media: "He is the best T20 opener in the world. India have to pick him."

The teen has already been selected for India's A squad for next month's series in Sri Lanka. Many believe a call-up to the full national team for their England tour this summer is only a matter of time.

Rajasthan Royals now advance to face Gujarat Titans on Friday, with the winner earning a spot in Sunday's championship final against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
