22-Year-Old Becomes Youngest to Row Around Great Britain
Grace Church just became the youngest person ever to row the entire coastline of Great Britain, finishing a grueling 2,000-mile journey in 38 days. Her crew also set a world record for the fastest mixed team of six to complete the challenge.
At 22 years old, Grace Church crossed the finish line beneath London's Tower Bridge this week, making history as the youngest person to row around the entire coastline of Great Britain.
Church and her five crewmates aboard the rowing boat Nautilus completed the GB Row Challenge in just 38 days, three hours, 41 minutes and 25 seconds. The achievement places her among fewer than 40 people ever to accomplish this feat.
"Since I started rowing in my early teens, I've always said that one day I wanted to row around the UK," Church said. "To now be able to say we actually did it feels surreal."
The 2,000-mile route takes crews through some of Europe's most demanding and unpredictable waters, entirely without external support. That means no supply drops, no backup boats, just six rowers and the open sea.
Church was honest about the challenges they faced. The hardest moments came during the 2am to 4am shifts, struggling to stay awake in the cold while putting on wet gear. Strong winds and tides made steering difficult, though she admits surfing waves at speeds up to 10 knots was "pretty cool."

The Ripple Effect
Team Nautilus didn't just chase a record. Throughout their journey, they collected environmental data for scientists at the University of Portsmouth, gathering information on microplastic pollution, biodiversity, underwater noise, sea temperature and salinity.
The data will be shared through The Crown Estate's Marine Data Exchange, contributing to a growing long-term record of UK coastal waters' health. Another team, Rowmads, completed the same challenge last week in 32 days, also collecting crucial environmental data along the way.
The team is awaiting verification from the Ocean Rowing Society for a Guinness World Records title as the fastest mixed crew of six to complete the challenge. For Church, the record is secondary to the experience itself.
"This has been the best experience I could've ever asked for," she said. "It's a dream come true, and I'll forever be grateful for this unforgettable journey of a lifetime."
Sometimes the biggest achievements start with a teenage dream and end with changing what we thought was possible.
