24-Year-Old Wrestler Makes History at Vegas Slam Fest
Rising star Persephone will compete in CMLL's first standalone U.S. show after 90 years, bringing Mexican Lucha Libre to Las Vegas fans. The El Paso native earned praise from AEW's Tony Khan for her athletic skill and championship wins.
A 24-year-old wrestler from El Paso is helping break barriers for one of the world's oldest wrestling companies.
Persephone will compete at CMLL's historic first standalone U.S. show at Las Vegas' Palms Casino Resort during Slam Fest next month. For more than 90 years, the Mexican wrestling giant only hosted joint shows in America, but now they're taking center stage.
"I think it's super exciting," Persephone told Fox News Digital. "We are Mexico's biggest company and we're branching out on an international level."
The young wrestler has made waves since joining CMLL in 2023. She won the 2025 Grand Prix de Amazonas and captured the CMLL Amazonas Universal Championship in 2024, proving herself against the best in the business.
Her talent caught the attention of All Elite Wrestling founder Tony Khan, who called her "fantastic" during Super Bowl week. "Persephone has all the tools," Khan said. "She can be a great star in AEW."

Persephone said the praise meant everything to her. "I've always known I'm a good athlete," she explained. "I had scholarships lined up in other sports before I decided to stop those and pursue pro wrestling."
Why This Inspires
Persephone represents a new generation of wrestlers who are breaking down walls between companies and countries. She believes these collaborations create magic for fans who get to see different styles meet in the ring.
"When you go to a different country, you kind of blend styles," she said. "We bring in the Lucha Libre and then face stars from the U.S. with more of an American background. Then we go to Japan and face a different style."
The wrestler stressed how exciting this moment is for wrestling fans everywhere. "It's a great time to be a fan," she said. "Right now there's just so much out there and with the collaborations from all these different companies, you can broaden your scope of interest."
She recently faced Mercedes Moné for the CMLL World Women's Championship, showing she can compete at the highest level. Persephone watched Moné rise to fame when she was younger and learned from her technical savvy in the ring.
Now she's the one younger fans are watching rise, proving that hard work and athletic skill can open doors across borders and bring people together through the sport they love.
