2,596 College Football Players Hit Honor Roll This Year

College football players are breaking records off the field, and the numbers tell an incredible story.

The National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society just celebrated its 20th anniversary by recognizing 2,596 college football players who maintained a 3.2 GPA or higher throughout their entire college careers. That's the largest class in the program's two-decade history.

Since 2007, this academic honor has recognized 23,568 student-athletes from 691 schools across every level of college football. The growing numbers show that despite major changes sweeping through college sports, one thing hasn't changed: football continues developing disciplined, educated leaders.

Temple University had six representatives on this year's honor society list. Offensive tackle Diego Barajas, cornerbacks Jaylen Castleberry and Ben Osueke, defensive tackle Allen Haye, wide receiver Kajiya Hollawayne, and quarterback Evan Simon all earned the distinction.

The program started from a simple request. Twenty years ago, college coaches approached the National Football Foundation with an idea: recognize not just their top student-athlete, but all the players excelling in the classroom at the highest levels.

"Their voices led to the creation of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society, and two decades later, the results speak for themselves," said NFF President Steve Hatchell. Year after year, remarkable academic achievements continue across college football.

The Ripple Effect

This program represents one of the most comprehensive scholar-athlete initiatives in college athletics. The 365 schools represented in this year's class alone shows how widespread academic excellence has become in football programs nationwide.

NFF Chairman Archie Manning emphasized the bigger picture: as college football faces transition, the game's ability to develop well-rounded student-athletes committed to classroom excellence remains constant. These aren't just athletes who happen to take classes; they're students who've proven their commitment to learning throughout their entire college journey.

The record-breaking numbers this year prove that athletic and academic excellence aren't competing priorities. They're complementary goals that thousands of young people achieve simultaneously every single year.
