3 Neighbors Pull Driver From Burning Car in NC
When Joe Fields and Jason Jobe heard screeching tires and a boom, they ran toward danger instead of away from it. Their split-second decision to rescue a stranger from a fiery wreck in McLeansville saved a life.
Three neighbors became unexpected heroes Sunday night when they pulled a trapped driver from a burning vehicle moments before flames consumed the car completely.
Joe Fields and Jason Jobe were at a friend's house on the 4600 block of Creekview Road in McLeansville, North Carolina, when they heard tires screeching followed by a loud crash. They jumped in their car to investigate.
"It was just a big fireball. That's all we saw," Jobe said.
Without hesitation, the three men ran toward the flames. Fields knew exactly what was at stake: get the driver out immediately or watch him die. The victim was a larger man, and Fields doubts he could have moved him alone.
"I don't think it was coincidence," Fields said. "Three guys were here. We were able to pull him out. For this to happen in such a rural area and have three grown men around is the stuff of miracles."

The rescue wasn't easy. Fields admits he was terrified opening that car door, describing the scene as "something from a horror movie." But fear didn't stop him or the others from doing what needed to be done.
The three men stayed with the injured driver until Guilford County EMS arrived just before 7 p.m. Photos from the scene show the vehicle completely engulfed in flames, later reduced to a pile of debris by Tuesday.
Why This Inspires
Fields now hopes others will find the same courage if faced with a similar moment. His message is simple: when someone needs help, act. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is still investigating what caused the crash.
The driver remains in critical condition, and Fields is praying for his full recovery.
In a rural area where help could have been minutes away, three ordinary neighbors made the choice that mattered most.
