3 New Routes Make Kilimanjaro Easier to Reach From Europe

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is about to get a whole lot easier for adventure seekers across Europe.

Three major airlines are launching new direct routes to northern Tanzania, connecting travelers to Africa's highest peak and some of the continent's most spectacular wildlife destinations. Brussels Airlines kicks things off June 3rd with twice-weekly flights from Belgium's capital to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

The new service marks a significant expansion for travelers dreaming of summiting the 19,341-foot mountain. Brussels Airlines CEO Dorothea von Boxberg celebrated the launch, noting that connecting Europe to Tanzania helps support the local economy while making bucket list adventures more accessible.

Italian airline Neos joins the effort with seasonal service starting July 14th. The once-weekly Milan Malpensa route will continue on to Zanzibar, giving travelers easy access to both mountain adventures and beach relaxation in one trip.

Air Tanzania announced the third route, launching July 2027 between LondonGatwick and Kilimanjaro with at least three weekly flights. The airline is already eyeing additional European cities for future expansion.

The Ripple Effect

These new routes do more than just bring climbers closer to Kilimanjaro's summit. Northern Tanzania hosts some of Africa's most incredible wildlife experiences, including the famous Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater.

Each year, over 1.5 million wildebeest and 250,000 zebra migrate through this region in the largest animal migration on Earth. The new flight paths make witnessing this natural wonder significantly easier for European travelers who previously faced complicated connections.

Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Park also fall within this northern safari circuit. What was once a journey requiring multiple layovers and long travel days can now be accomplished with a single direct flight.

The expansion benefits local communities too, as increased tourism brings jobs and economic opportunities to Tanzania. Safari guides, hotel staff, porters, and countless other workers depend on international visitors to support their livelihoods.
