3-Year-Old Accidentally Attends First Grade, Aces the Day

Adrian Peru thought he was helping his brother out with a routine school drop-off. Instead, he accidentally enrolled his 3-year-old nephew in first grade for the day.

Peru was watching his brother's three kids and dropped them all off at school. The oldest went to fifth grade, his niece headed to second grade, and the youngest tagged along with what Peru assumed was his first-grade class.

There was just one telltale sign something was off. While the older kids carried backpacks, the 3-year-old clutched a Walmart bag and a red lunchbox of mysterious origin.

The mix-up came to light at pickup time. Peru texted his brother saying he was grabbing all three kids, and his brother responded with confusion: "Three of them?"

That's when Peru realized the youngest wasn't enrolled in school at all. The tiny student had just completed an entire day of first grade at 3 years old.

Far from being overwhelmed, the little guy thrived. He spent time in art class, played on the playground, and apparently charmed everyone he met.

When Peru asked his older nephew and niece why they didn't mention their little brother wasn't supposed to be there, they simply shrugged. The 3-year-old, meanwhile, did victory laps around the room, clearly proud of his big day.

The story gets even sweeter. Peru's video racked up over 3.2 million likes on Instagram, with teachers flooding the comments with their own stories.

One transitional kindergarten teacher admitted that early in the school year, staff would have "just nodded and smiled and ushered him in, made room, included him" while making calls to figure things out. Another commenter shared how their little sister started school the same way, following a neighbor and eventually staying for good.

The next day, the 3-year-old stayed home. But his brief school career left an impact because his sister came home with fan mail for him.

First graders had written notes saying "Miss you" and "We love you," complete with drawings. One student even sketched him a little house.

When asked if he wanted to return to school, the boy said he missed it. And in a final twist, Peru discovered a first-aid kit tucked inside the lunchbox, items the child definitely didn't have that morning.

The accidental student came home with artwork, new friends, survival supplies, and apparently a love of learning.
