40K Young People Welcome Pope With Catalan Human Tower

Forty thousand young people filled a Barcelona stadium on June 9, greeted by one of Catalonia's most breathtaking traditions: a human castle built by performers standing on each other's shoulders, creating a living tower of teamwork and trust.

The vigil formed part of a historic visit to Spain that includes blessing the Tower of Jesus Christ at Barcelona's Sagrada Família. Standing 172.5 meters tall, it's the final tower envisioned by architect Antoni Gaudí and makes the basilica the world's tallest church.

The blessing ceremony on June 10 coincides with the centenary of Gaudí's death. It marks the completion of a vision more than a century in the making.
