448 Runners Raise Funds for Randolph Schools at 5K

When 448 runners laced up their sneakers on a cool May morning in Randolph, New Jersey, they weren't just racing for personal bests. They were running to give local students better opportunities.

The Randolph Education Foundation's annual "Randolph Rocks" 5K welcomed runners, walkers, and families on May 30 for its primary fundraising event of the year. After last year's rainy race, participants enjoyed friendlier weather with sunshine peeking through the clouds.

The event offered something for everyone, from competitive runners tackling a certified USATF course to young children taking part in the non-timed 1K Fun Run. The route wound through 70% roads and 30% scenic Randolph trails, with live music keeping spirits high along the way.

Local businesses showed up in force to support the cause. Professional Physical Therapy and M&T Bank joined other community vendors as sponsors, turning the race into a true neighborhood celebration.

Brian Lafleche crossed the finish line first among male runners with a time of 16:19, while Rebecca Sebastian led the women at 18:54. But the real winners were Randolph Township students who will benefit from the funds raised.

The Ripple Effect

Every dollar from this race flows directly into student success. The foundation uses proceeds to fund Next Practice Grants that bring innovative teaching methods to classrooms. They support the Rock Stars Event celebrating academic achievement and provide Second Pair of Jeans assistance for families facing hardship.

The foundation also awards scholarships helping graduating seniors pursue higher education. These programs touch students across all grade levels, creating opportunities that might not otherwise exist.
