48 YSU Nursing Students Join Elite Honor Society

Forty-eight nursing students at Youngstown State University recently achieved something remarkable: induction into Sigma, the International Honor Society of Nursing, one of the most prestigious recognitions a nursing student can earn.

The newly inducted members come from across the Centofanti School of Nursing, including students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, RN-to-BSN, and graduate nursing programs. Each one earned their place by meeting rigorous academic standards that go far beyond just good grades.

To qualify, undergraduate students had to complete at least half their nursing curriculum, rank among the very top students in their class, and maintain exceptional GPAs. Graduate students faced equally tough requirements, needing to demonstrate outstanding academic achievement throughout their advanced studies.

But grades alone weren't enough. Every inductee also showed strong leadership skills and a deep commitment to nursing's core values of scholarship, leadership, and service.

The Ripple Effect

This achievement extends far beyond individual recognition. Sigma connects more than 135,000 nurse scholars and leaders across 100 countries, giving these 48 students access to a global network that will support their entire careers.

As these students graduate and enter hospitals, clinics, and communities, they'll bring not just their excellent education but also connections to cutting-edge research, leadership opportunities, and lifelong professional development resources. At a time when healthcare workers face enormous challenges, having this caliber of prepared, connected nurses entering the field matters deeply.

The Xi Xi Chapter at YSU now includes 178 student and nurse leader members, led by assistant professor Danielle Class. The chapter continues to grow, strengthening Ohio's nursing workforce one exceptional student at a time.

These 48 new inductees represent the future of compassionate, skilled healthcare, and that future looks bright.
