51 Solutions Could Trigger Rapid Planet Repair by 2030

The same science that warns us about climate tipping points has just revealed something extraordinary: we're approaching positive tipping points where planetary repair could become rapid and unstoppable.

The Earthshot Prize and University of Exeter published groundbreaking research identifying 51 solutions that could trigger transformative environmental change by 2030. Solar power offers the clearest example of a positive tipping point already underway. Costs have dropped 90% in the past decade, making solar the cheapest electricity source in most of the world. As more people adopt it, manufacturing costs fall further, attracting more investment and spurring better technology.

This clean energy cascade is now triggering progress in electric vehicles, clean buildings, and industrial processes. One breakthrough is unlocking doors across multiple sectors.

Ocean conservation is showing similar momentum. Well-protected marine areas like Australia's Great Barrier Reef Marine Park have seen fish stocks and biodiversity recover within years. Communities witnessing these benefits have expanded protection zones, accelerating progress and strengthening food security for coastal populations.

In January, over 140 countries backed the High Seas Treaty to protect international waters. That's the kind of policy spread that creates cascading change.

Clean cooking technology in East and Southern Africa is nearing its own tipping point. Pay-as-you-go solar and clean cooking businesses are scaling rapidly, while Latin America and parts of Asia have nearly completed their transition to cleaner household energy, bringing health benefits to millions.

The research identifies three conditions needed for solutions to tip: they must be affordable compared to harmful alternatives, accessible to those who need them, and attractive enough that adoption becomes the obvious choice.
