600+ Cancer Survivors Celebrate Together in Monterey

More than 600 cancer survivors gathered at Cardinale Stadium for a celebration that reminds us no one fights cancer alone.

Montage Health hosted its 28th annual Cancer Survivors Day in Seaside, California, marking the first time the event was held at this larger venue. The growing attendance reflects both the success of cancer treatment and the community's commitment to supporting those on the journey.

Kevin Causey, president of the Montage Health Foundation, brought unique perspective to this year's event as both organizer and current cancer patient. "I know full well what these folks are going through, have gone through, and will continue to go through," Causey said.

His experience receiving care at Montage Health has deepened his appreciation for the medical team. Causey encouraged anyone facing a cancer diagnosis to seek treatment there, calling the care "extraordinary."

Lesley Borman, a survivor who now volunteers at the annual event, returns year after year for the sense of connection it provides. "There's a lot more people going through what you're going through that you don't even know about," Borman explained.

Being surrounded by others who understand the cancer experience creates a powerful sense of belonging. "It's always great to be around your people and feel that," she said.

The celebration drew support from beyond the medical community, with Monterey Bay FC soccer players attending to honor survivors. Jacob Jackson, one of the players, has watched family members face cancer and wanted to give back to those who have beaten it.

Teammate Nico Gordon appreciated seeing the community unite around what truly matters. "It's really nice to see the community come together and all appreciate the big things in life like family and friends," he said.
