7 Doctors Chase World Record in Cow Costumes at Half Marathon

Seven doctors are taking their annual tradition of running in cow costumes to the next level with an official world record attempt at the Brighton Half Marathon on March 1, 2026.

John Jones, Peter Osborne, Dominic Hughes, Tom Ratcliffe, Craig McKay, Chris Worrall, and Phil Weston will race arm-in-arm in full cow costumes, hoping to set the Guinness World Record for fastest male dressed as a mammal. The unique requirement means all seven must cross both the start and finish lines together to make it into the record books.

"We've been running the Brighton Half Marathon in cow costumes since 2018," Jones explained. The group first ran Brighton's half marathon in 2010, and most have completed it every year since. After multiple applications to Guinness, this year their attempt was finally approved.

The doctors won't be the only ones bringing creativity to the course. Brothers Simeon and Jasper Superville will run as Slinky Dog from Toy Story to raise awareness for Grassroots Suicide Prevention. "Hopefully the costume helps to start even more conversations, as well as reduce the stigma around it," Simeon said.

Harvey "Bunny" Stephens, 59, will honor his late friend and father-in-law by running in a bunny suit for St Barnabas House hospice. He credits the organization with giving his father-in-law "palliative care and the chance to die on his own terms with dignity and respect."

The Ripple Effect

What started as seven friends having fun in matching cow costumes has grown into something bigger. Their yearly tradition shows how joy and purpose can coexist, inspiring others to run for causes they care about while bringing smiles to thousands of spectators lining the Brighton streets.

The event kicks off with youth races on February 28, followed by the main half marathon the next day. BAFTA-nominated singer Olly Alexander will officially start the race, with comedian Zoe Lyons and SAS: Who Dares Wins star Chris Oliver also making appearances.

Whether they break the record or not, these doctors prove that doing good doesn't have to be serious business.
