7th Grader Catches World Record Fish After Writing It Down

When Madilyn Davis turned in her sixth-grade goal sheet, her mom thought she was dreaming a little too big.

Most students at the Gilbert school wrote down goals like reading more books or making the basketball team. Madilyn wrote that she wanted to pet a capybara and break a world record.

Her family wasn't sure what to make of it. Her mom Audrey admits both goals sounded pretty far-fetched at the time.

But Madilyn took her classroom assignment seriously. By spring, she had already crossed off the first goal after visiting a capybara petting zoo.

That left just one item on her list.

On the morning of July 4, Madilyn was fishing with her dad Dillon in Wisconsin. They were down to their last few casts before heading home when Madilyn hooked something massive.

The giant muskie put up a fight, but Madilyn landed it. After months of measurements, paperwork, and official review, her catch was certified as a Junior Muskie Length World Record.

Just like that, both goals were complete. And she still had months left in the school year.
