8 Chihuahuas Rescued from Arkansas Abandonment

When a postal carrier in Pocahontas, Arkansas noticed something wasn't right at a local property, she made a call that would save eight lives.

The mail carrier contacted Five Rivers Animal Aid after spotting Chihuahuas that appeared neglected and abandoned. The dogs were living in unsanitary conditions with no one caring for them.

Colby Hodges, a veterinarian with Rescue One, made the drive to Randolph County to bring the dogs to safety. Her organization doesn't usually travel that far, but the situation demanded action.

"There's just an abundance of people that aren't getting their animals spayed or neutered, and then people that treat them like items," Hodges said. She noted that abandonment cases seem to increase the further south her team travels.

The eight Chihuahuas are now in foster homes where they're getting the medical care, food, and attention they desperately needed. Once they regain their health and strength, they'll be available for adoption into permanent homes.

This rescue highlights how one person paying attention can make all the difference. The postal carrier didn't look away when she noticed something wrong. She took the time to report what she saw, setting a chain of events in motion that saved eight animals from suffering.
