800 Teens Crash Florida Beach Wedding, Stay for Vows

Dawn Moore stepped onto a Florida beach expecting 140 wedding guests on March 27. Instead, she found nearly 900 people waiting.

High school seniors celebrating their unofficial skip day had packed the beach outside her Jacksonville hotel. Police arrived, some arrests were made, and one officer suggested Moore and her fiancé Zack Stover relocate their ceremony a mile down the shore.

But Moore wasn't budging. "There's no way that we can do that," she told her photographer. "We're all barefoot, and I have on a really tight wedding dress."

So the couple decided to get married anyway, unexpected audience and all.

As Moore and her bridesmaids walked onto the sand, the teenagers erupted in cheers and applause. Then something unexpected happened: when the ceremony began, the crowd went completely silent.

"They got quiet and they were really respectful," Moore recalled. "It turned out to be really good."

Video footage showed the massive crowd hushed during the couple's vows, honoring a moment they had stumbled upon by accident. The moment the couple kissed, the cheering resumed.

Several teens approached Moore afterward with a confession: this was the first wedding they'd ever witnessed. For Moore, who attended many weddings in her youth, the moment felt full circle.

"It made me know what I wanted when I got older," she said. "I'm happy to have given them that."

The bride's wedding day grew from 140 guests to somewhere between 800 and 900. What could have been a disaster became the most memorable ceremony she could imagine.

Speaking from her Disney World honeymoon, Moore had one message: "Thank you to all the seniors who were there on senior skip day. You all made it amazing."
