8,000 Kindness Coloring Pages Set New World Record

Eisenhower Junior High School in Taylorsville, Utah, just turned kindness into a record-breaking art project. On Friday, students laid out more than 8,000 hand-colored pages across their gym floor, creating a vibrant line stretching 3,686 feet and 8 inches.

The attempt follows a school tradition of world record challenges. Last year, these same students set the record for the fastest human conveyor belt.

This time, the journalism class designed coloring sheets featuring messages like "Choose Kindness," "Generals are Kind," and "Being Kind Brings Smiles." Then the entire school spent months bringing them to life with crayons, markers, and colored pencils.

Guinness World Records has strict rules: no blank pages, at least two colors on each sheet, and every page must touch the next. Students spent nearly three hours carefully placing each page in perfect alignment.

Teacher Zach Layton said the project grew from a simple district kindness initiative. "The Granite School District has asked all of us to do different kindness activities each month," he explained. "We had to create some coloring sheets, and we're just like, 'Hey, let's put them together.'"

The Ripple Effect

The real victory might not be in the record books at all. Sixth-grader Ma'Ake watched classmates who had never spoken before start conversations about coloring techniques and favorite designs.

"Kids who have never talked to each other will be like, 'Hey, have you colored some sheets yet?'" Layton said. "So it gets them to come together, as a community, and that's what we're all about here."

The school now needs to submit photos, videos, and witness statements to Guinness for verification. The process typically takes 12 weeks, though they're hoping for faster results before summer break.

The current record stands at 5,930 coloring pages, which means Eisenhower's 8,000-page attempt should easily claim the title. But for students at this Utah junior high, the point was never just about winning.
