80s Star John Waite Turns Speeding Stop Into Photo Shoot

In July 2025, deputies in Kiowa County, Kansas, stopped a vehicle carrying British pop star John Waite and his band as they rushed to a concert in Dodge City. Sergeant Justin Rugg, who made the stop, happened to be a longtime fan of the '80s hitmaker.

Months later, Waite recalled the encounter with a laugh during a YouTube interview. "The next thing I know, I'm taking photographs with him, and we're almost wrestling," he said. "That night, I look out in the audience, and he's raging, jumping up and down about four rows back!"

Even the 911 dispatcher who handled the call chimed in online, expressing excitement about the unexpected celebrity encounter during their shift.
