82% of Lake Travis Schools Earn Top 'A' Ratings in Texas

Students, teachers, and families in Lake Travis have something big to celebrate after the district earned its second straight "A" rating and the highest scores in recent memory.

The Texas Education Agency released preliminary accountability ratings on August 14, and Lake Travis ISD scored an impressive 91 out of 100 points overall. Nine of the district's 11 campuses received top "A" ratings, while the remaining two earned "B" grades.

"This is the best accountability record I think I've ever presented to the board, so it's super exciting," Director of Accountability and Achievement Kathy Burbank told the school board at their August 19 meeting. Her enthusiasm reflects years of dedicated work paying off.

The district's improvement story gets even better. Two campuses jumped up a full letter grade from the previous year, while nine others maintained their strong ratings. Not a single campus in the district saw its rating drop.

Texas evaluates schools on three key areas: student achievement, progress over time, and efforts to close achievement gaps between different student groups. Lake Travis earned 91 points for student achievement, 81 for school progress, and 91 for closing educational gaps.

Six campuses stood out even among high performers, earning special academic distinctions for ranking in the top 25% when compared to similar schools across Texas. These distinctions recognize schools that excel despite facing similar challenges and serving similar student populations.

Board member Jonathan Bove praised the teamwork behind the results during the meeting. He thanked teachers for delivering quality instruction, campus administrators for providing guidance, and the entire team for their commitment to student success.

The Ripple Effect

Lake Travis isn't alone in celebrating improvement. Across Texas, nearly a quarter of all districts and campuses saw their ratings climb from the previous year, and 85% of schools statewide achieved acceptable performance levels.

These statewide gains suggest that educational strategies are working and students are benefiting from renewed focus on achievement. When schools succeed, entire communities benefit through better prepared graduates, stronger workforce development, and increased property values.
