93 of 95 Tennessee Counties See Unemployment Drop in July

Tennessee workers just got some really good news about their local job markets.

New data from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development shows 93 of the state's 95 counties recorded lower unemployment rates between June and July. Only one county saw an increase, while another stayed flat.

The numbers get even better when you zoom in. Eighty-nine counties now have unemployment rates below 5%, a key benchmark economists watch. Four counties tied for the state's lowest rate at just 2.8%: Cheatham, Sevier, Williamson, and Dickson.

Local communities are seeing real improvement. Coffee County dropped from 3.8% unemployment in June to 3.4% in July. That's also better than the 4.1% the county recorded last July, showing progress over the past year.

Bedford and Moore counties both improved to 3.6% in July, down from 3.7% the month before. Franklin County, despite having the highest rate in its listening area at 3.8%, still beat both its June number and last year's July figure.

Even the counties with the highest unemployment are trending the right direction. Perry County led the state at 5.8%, but that was still down from June. Hancock County came in second at 5.7%, also an improvement from the previous month.
