98-Year-Old Widow Starts Food Business, Serves 200 Families

At 98 years old, Prabhavati still wakes up early to work in her kitchen in Ahmedabad. But now she's not just cooking for family. She's running her own business.

For 60 years after marrying at 22, Prabhavati raised three daughters and kept a busy home. She loved experimenting with new recipes and would send dishes to neighbors just to see their faces light up.

Then in 2017, her husband passed away. Her daughters had settled into their own lives, and her grandchildren had grown up. For the first time in six decades, her kitchen fell quiet.

One day, a friend of her daughter asked if she could make khandvi for a party. The friend insisted on paying. That simple request gave Prabhavati something she desperately needed: a reason to cook again.

Word spread quickly about her food. In 2018, what started as one order became Nani's Nashta, a full food business serving authentic Gujarati dishes across Ahmedabad.

People didn't just love the taste. They could feel the care she poured into every dish, the same love she'd given her own family for decades.

Today, Prabhavati still oversees every single order. She tastes each batch herself and won't let anything leave her kitchen unless it meets her standards.

"Earlier, I cooked for my family. Today, I cook for many families," she says. "I am not just someone's wife or mother. I am a founder."

More than 200 families now wait for her homemade food. For Prabhavati, the business isn't about money. It's about purpose, identity, and the joy of doing what she loves most.
